Born in Indiana – 1837
He married Nancy Mathx also a native of Indiana who was born 5-18-1848. Coming to Bremer county in 1861. She had two brothers J.J. and Jacob Mattix of Co. B 28th Iowa Infantry in the Civil war. J.J. died in service. After Wm. Benj. died Mrs. B. Married Wm. Geo Wood who had served in the 7th Wis and as Lt. in Co. E. 44 Iowa Infantry. To them were born two more children Wm. G. Wood, Jr. and Mrs. Lucinda Clouse. Another adopted daughter Mrs. Henry E. S. lived in Waterloo. The former Mrs. Benj. died at her home Dec. 31, 1909 and buried beside Mr. Benjamine in Horton cemetery. Mrs. Mary Twanziger of Waverly, Iowa was a step-daughter of the lady.
Took sick while with the Regt. and returned to hospital at Dubuque when death occurred. Boby returned to Horton, Iowa.
