Ronald Thoms, 71, of Waverly, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Ron was born December 19, 1946, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Ernst and Ida (Kaiser) Thoms. He attended the Waverly-Shell Rock High School and then was drafted into the United States Marine Corp where he served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. Upon returning to the area he worked at Waterloo Industries and was a mechanic at Bonzers Station and the Metric Wrench in Waverly. He was also a farmhand for Larry Schweer, Bill Kammeyer, and his brother Arlin.
Ron enjoyed watching Westerns and listening to Country Western music. He loved animals, especially his cats. Ron was known to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Ron is survived by his siblings; Rosie Haar of Waverly, Carole (James) Cole of Sumner, Larry (Donna) Thoms of Mason City, Stanley Thoms of Waterloo, Shirley Thoms of Arkansas, Lavina (Jay) Dietz of Arkansas, Arlin (Sandy) Thoms of Waverly, Ione (Paul) Ledesma of Waverly and James Thoms of Mashpee, Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
