Wounded severely at Shilah and discharged because of wounds. Born in Ontaria Co. NY March 20 1824 Moved to Ashtobula Ohio 1837. In 1850 he moved from Ohio state to Stephenson Co. Ill and a year later came to Bremer Co. Iowa and settled on land near Fredericka. On his 32 birthday he married Aline A Walling and they were the first couple married in that township. He served as clerk of courts of Bremer Co from 1868 to 1873. He was wounded at the battle of Shiloh, and it was from this that he was discharged. Married Mar. so 1885 at Fredericka Iowa by Squire Reme the first couple to be married in his township. His first name has also been spelled Marques F. Gillett. Came to Bremer Co. Iowa in 1851. The son Fayette M. died at Bedford, Iowa 10,24,1935. Born 9,16-71. Daughter Lois (Mrs. Adams) born 12-20-1855. Died age 80 on 4-17-1936.
