The files of the Mo. Roster says this man was a member of Co. E. 5 Mo. Cav. 1886 Roster confirms aboce Page 497. Born in Germany March 1, 1841. Came to the U.S. to Chicago at the age of 17 years. Married there in 1866 to Caroline and served 3 years, 3 months being discharged because of illness. For one year he returned to Chicago then came to Denver Ia 1866. He farmed here. To them were born 5 children, son[s] Henry, John, Fred, and two daughters: Mina and Anna. Two years before death his mind gave way and he was entered to the State Institution at Independence, Ia. Here he died Dec. 10, 1911 with burial in Scharp Cemetery about 2 miles N.E. of Denver in Maxfield Township. In ’86 Roster shows this man in 4th Mo. Cav. Co. H. but no recond of being in 5 Mo. Cav.
