He spent his vacations with an older sister at Tenstrike. Minn. from here he enlisted in the World War. on March 24 1918. He was sent to Camo Grant Ill. June 8, 1918 sailed from NY June 15, 1918 as a member of Co. B. 32 [a]nd Eng. Returned broken in health. June 1919. and discharged June 30, 1919 at Camp Dodge Ia. returning to the pines of Minnesota to overcome complications caused from army service his health gradually failing he came back to Wavery Ia. March 6 1921 death occuring while on the operating table during an operation revealing abdominal cancer. He was survived b his widowed mother on brother Carl, and sisters Bessie Mrs. Pearl Bryant. Mrs Clara Ruth (Mrs Body Kelsey). His father having preceded him in death in 1901
