Born in England he came to America and from Waverly enlisted as 3rd. Sgt. in Co. G. 9 Ia. Inf.. Was in heavy service and disch. because of wounds. Returnin[g] to Waverly he was popular and served as city Marshall for several years. He die[d] of cancer of the stomoch at the age of 60 years 6 mo. and 4 days. He was buried with military service and at his request the drum corps played the Girl I left Behine Me as they returned from the cemetery showing the humor of the man in not wanting to have such a solemn service.
His wife Mrs. Sarag Hilton Pigott Went east to her relatives in the east after his husband heath and died at Lowell Mas . and perhaps buried there Aug. 1891.
