Armed Forces Grave Registration

Was one of 13 children. Came to America in 1859. In may 1861 he enlisted as Pvt. in Co. G. 16 N.Y. Inf, was taken sick discharged and sen[t] home. In July 1861 he again enlisted in Co C. 106 N.Y. as Corp. Was promoted Sgt. of his Co. Wounded severly at Battle of Cold Harbor in the hand, right arm, and thigh. Hospitalized for 11 months.
In 1861 came to Jamesville Iowa. Was married Feb. 16 1868 at Jamesville to Margaret Wallace by whom he had 5 children. She was born in Antrina Ireland June 28 1845. She died at Jamesville, Iowa on Oct. 22, 1905. In 1907 he was married to Mrs. Florence Schayler Jones, who after his death moved to Deleoon Wos.
Mr. Ballanyne served as mayor of Jamesville Iowa and served other positions of trust.
