Howard Jennings, 81, of Janesville, Iowa, died on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Unity Point-Allen Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa.
Howard was born on August 23, 1933, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Roger and Vera (Shirer) Jennings. He attended school in Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School in 1951. In May of 1957, he graduated from Waterloo Business College. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. Howard was united in marriage to Carol Shepard on June 2, 1956, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. He retired from Carl Schuler Masonry in 2001.
He was a former member of the Janesville Lions Club and he was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. Howard enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cards.
Howard is survived by his wife, Carol Jennings of Janesville, Iowa; a daughter, Jeannette Ann (David) Mankin of Atkins, Iowa; a son, Michael Ives (special friend, Kathleen) of Scottsdale, Arizona; a daughter, JoAnn (Jim) Hamman of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Zachary and Garett Jennings; C.J. and Cory Mankin; and Maggie and Leslie Hamman; two sisters, Pat (Ardean) Pitman of Cincinnati, Ohio and Sara (Dan) Macy of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Vera Jennings and brother, John Jennings.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Janesville United Methodist Church in Janesville with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Janesville. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
