Enlistes as first corporal of Co. C. 21 Ia Inf. on Aug 10, 1862. On Feb 24 1863 he was promoted 5 Sgt. of his Co. Was severly wounded at Vicksburg Miss, on May 22 1863 which lead to his being made 4 Sgt. on Aug. 8 1863. He was transferred to the invalid corps Feb. 29 1864 and no further recond is found in the State roster of Ia. Soldiers. First enlistment at Centralia Ill Apr. 14 1861 in Co. C. Ill Inf. then re-enlisted for duration of war in Co. C. 21 Ia Infl was in battles of Hartsville, Gibson, Champion Hill, Black River Bridge, wounded at Vicksburg Jackson, Spanish Fork, Ft.
