Harold Irving Sundet, 87, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2015, of natural causes. He was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Wittenberg, WI, where he grew up, the son of Chris and Anna (Slotten) Sundet. He was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Field on July 9, 1952.

Harold graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1946 and then served in the Army for three years. He went on to college, earning a BA in music education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He and Dorothy moved to Austin, MN. A beautiful violinist, he taught strings and played in several orchestras as well as directed the choir at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. In 1964, the family moved to Iowa City where he taught at the University Lab School while earning his Master’s degree and completing coursework for his PhD. The family spent two years in Mt. Pleasant where Harold taught at Iowa Wesleyan College, and then they moved to Waverly where he was a music professor at Wartburg College and Concertmaster of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony and the Waverly Community Symphony Orchestra. Later he was the Registrar and then worked in the controller’s office until he retired in 1993. Harold was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, directing the choir for many years, serving on the church council, and as a teacher for the Search Bible Study. He was a member of Sons of Norway and was their treasurer for many years. He was also the treasurer for the Ledges where they have lived for the past 10 years. He and Dorothy were able to experience several trips to Europe. Harold enjoyed singing, gardening, reading, and cooking. He loved spending time with his family.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, John’s wife Beverly. He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Marcia (Mike) Klinefelter of Shell Rock, IA, and Barbie (John) Bush of Des Moines, IA; 3 sons, Erik (Danna) Sundet of Streetsboro, OH, Mark (Rose) Sundet of Springfield, MO, and John Sundet of Clarksville, IA; 12 grandchildren, Blair, Shelley, David, Stephen, Curtis, Kristen, Breanna, Austin, Aaron, Hannah, Rachel, and Sarah; 4 great-grandchildren, Bane, Ava, Mandalyn, and Gage; 2 sisters, Ruby Oleson of Lake Geneva, WI, and Crystal Sundet of Denver, CO; and 2 brothers, Wally (Marie) Sundet of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Arvid (Kim) Sundet of Webb Lake, WI.

The funeral will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, on Aug. 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 on Aug. 6th at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial of cremains will follow on a later date at Harlington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard.
